We are having problems duplicating in house made DVD\'s. They are showing that the disks have been written to but we are unable to read them in any machine.

this problem only seems to happen when i am burning dvd's.

Hi Bob,
Unfortunately it sounds like a fault may well have developed with the duplicator itself.
I will pass your contact number onto our technical support team, who will call you shortly to talk you through reseting the machine to all original settings. This may help, but it does sound more like a hardware problem, meaning the machine would have to be sent back to us for repair.
Kind Regards,

thanks for your help in this matter.as i was burning a couple of disks one of the drives failed on a read error, do i need to start a new ticket for this problem.

David - 2007-10-25 12:06:23

hi Bob,
If the drive failed on a read error, it indicates the master disc may have a glitch/be dirty and the data is unable to be read by the drive. There should be no fault with the machine. It might also be worth producing a second master disc, one burnt at a much slower speed. This ensures data integrity and should minimise any read errors. I will keep this ticket open for now, and if you have anymore problems please let me know.
Kind Regards,

hi, i bought some of those dvd you recommended. i havent changed any of the burn speed setting still set to 4x and they are still failing to copy. i was able to burn two yesterday, so i tried using them disks also, they also failed. any ideas what might be causing it.

Customer - 2007-10-25 11:43:39

dropping the speed down to 4x seems to have worked. so does that mean there is something wrong with the drive and we can not burn at 8x or do i need to set the speed each time i need to burn a new dvd. thanks

David - 2007-10-25 11:56:56

hi bob,
I'm glad that worked for you.
It's an unusual but surprisingly common "error". The discs are no doubt burning fine, but because they have been burnt at a high speed older machines will always have a problem recognising them. Whether it be PC's or DVD players. Burning the discs slower will usually ensure maximum compatibility with older machines.
However if you wish to keep the speed as high as possible, you could always try using a different brand of blank DVD media. Something like our Verbatim FastDry DVD-R 16X 4.7 GB: http://shop.cd-writer.com/acatalog/ALL_PRODUCTS_RECOMMENDED_DVD_MEDIA_318.html
These discs are passed at 16x speed, and you are likely to have more success at higher burning speeds.
Hope this helps, Kind Regards,

Hi bob,
Thanks for the additional information. Does your master disc seem to read ok in any of the machines? Please let me know what discs you are using, and at what speed you are burning the discs. Thanks, [edited]

Customer - 2007-10-25 10:35:03

the disks is readable in all other machines i can make individual copies using my laptop. The disks we used were ritek, bought from cd-writer.com. the speed at which we are burning the disks is x8. Thanks

David - 2007-10-25 11:12:46

Hi Bob,
Just as a provisional test it might be worth burning some of the DVDs at a slower speed, perhaps 4x or even 2x. See what effect (if any) this has on the ability of your machines to read the discs.
Let me know how that goes! [edited]
