Faulty SD 100 Lite

Serial 001887 see http://www.stordigital.com/support/index.php?go=Knowledgebase&article=180 Just bought mine yesterday. Unpacked today, about 30 discs in it grinds when the discs go in. It rejects most now and sounds like it is grinding coffee (in the actual cd drive) when burning cds. All the rejected ones are fine and they work fine when I burn them on my PC HP burner. Not impressed given I bought it to burn 700 cds and it packs up after 30. My machine and the serial number of the one in the link above are very close. Maybe a bad batch. Will probably get it swapped out. On a different note, I use the HDD copy setting. When I go through the choices I set it to 16X speed as per teh advice. Yet, when I watch the LCD while it is grinding it is showing as Max or 55X. It does this all the time. What is the point of setting the thing to a X speed and then it goes too fast. When I set it to 1X or 2X it fails every time with a speed error. Impressive piece of kit for £800 !! Please help sort it out.
