HP DVD 840E LIGHTSCRIBE WRITER
ORDER DATE 18-11-05
Dear Sir/Madam,
I ordered the above DVD Writer on-line on the 18 November last year: last week I installed the writer onto my computer.
After installation I found that the drive was not recognised on my computer, or listed in Device Manager: despite trying everything that I could think of, I could not get my computer to recognise the drive.
The details of my computer are as listed on the attached sheet. I then contacted HP UK: when I informed them of the difficulties that I had trying to install and get the drive recognised, they:
Offered to e-mail me the latest update / driver for the drive
Told me to contact the retailer who sold me the drive and request a drive change out
Recommended that I visit the HP site and download the update / driver and try their FAQ’s
Ensure that I had the latest Windows XP Updates and Nero Firmware and updates
This I did with still no success. On Thursday 16 March, I telephoned the number on my e-mail confirmation. I spoke to David Caunce (he was very helpful) who suggested that I try uninstalling and then a re-install; if this failed he suggested that I again contact yourselves a request a drive exchange.
When plugging in the power to the drive on re-installing, Windows:
Picked up the drive, and recognised it as the HP dvd840e Writer (mass storage device),
I then installed the (Nero) software package: however after installing the application and restarted to complete installation as requested at the end of the Nero installation, I found that the drive was again not being picked up and recognised by device manager.
I then unplugged the drive from the USB port, and plugged back in: at this time I had a dialogue box that popped up telling me that a USB device was not recognized and that the device attached to the computer had malfunctioned and windows did not recognize it, try reconnecting the device: if windows still does not recognize it replace the device.
I have again gone though all the trouble-shooters etc, and have still not got the drive recognized and listed by device manager, I have also repeated the re-install with the same result.
I would be grateful if you would take the necessary steps to replace the writer as soon as possible: delivery [and collection of the faulty writer] should be directed to the same address as my original order:
Many thanks for your help,
Regards,
